The BEST Harley for your 1st Harley- And Ones to Stay AWAY From

There are certain Harley Davidson’s out there in 2025 that are great first bikes for new(maybe) and experienced riders alike but there’s also some I would not recommend. Be careful about the ones you decide to buy because 1 year model can make a huge difference right now.

  1. I’ve had an 04 fatboy for years and I love it! I had cams upgraded, added V&H straights, apes, and a different seat and it looks and runs absolutely fantastic, it screams! However…it’s the 88 so when I got to 30k miles I took it in for cam chain tensioner inspection and it’s a good thing I did. Not only were they worn out and within a few hundred miles of grenading my engine, the crank had significant run out and was out of round. Because I absolutely love this bike I decided right then and there to not only convert to hydraulic tensioners but also just rebuild the entire lower end because I will never sell it! So it’s spring and because this thing will be down for atleast 8 weeks and probably longer I started looking at late model street glides. They are beautiful and the ones I checked out ran great. I’m not sure how I feel about all the modern upgrades on these bikes but I’m definitely not happy with the pricing! So…I started looking around the “used” market and I’m so glad I did! I found a 2012 FLHX with 20k miles in excellent condition and got it for $10.5k. I spent a little over $2k making it my own. 11″ bars, monster sucker, V&H street sweepers, and a an FP4 tuner to bump up the horses. It’s big blue pearl and for a little over $13k I got a freakin sweet azz ride that looks, runs, and sounds absolutely fantastic! My only complaint with the 103 is in town it really puts off some heat but for $13k, as opposed to more than twice that for a late model I can deal with it and im smiling ear to ear! Just wanted to share another option that to me was a no-brainer. Obviously one needs to find a bike that has been well maintained and taken care of for this to make sense but for me it was well worth the time spent looking.

  2. Love my 2013 iron 883, customized to my liking and wont get rid of it. My daughger is getting in to motorcycling and it will be hers soon. Currently have 2 other bikes i love but still ride the sporty alot. Ultra is for long trips. Softail for weekend jaunts and rallys. Commute to work on sporty.

  3. I got a 91 sportster 1200 for my first bike 2 years ago same day as I got my first truck I put a big cam and a kickstart on the bike cuz the electric starter never worked then couple months later I traded the bike for a month and my buddy gave me a 03 road king with a junkyard 5.3 ls swapped on it and I got it running then the transmission needed rebuild so we both got the transmission rebuilt so after that I got my 91 sportster back and then the chain/drive line keeps coming off thank God it didn’t snap in half yet so I grease the chain and the sprockets and it did a lil better the chain still slips but it rides better so now Im getting me a 05 electra glide it has apple carplay and android auto on it so now I can have extra passenger riding with me cuz I’m a bigger guy and Im 215+ pounds and the weight limit is only 400 pounds on a sportster so that’s why I got a bigger bike
